Geomagic Studio 12 offers fastest way to convert 3D scans of physical objects into parametric models for direct exchange with SolidWorks

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 9, 2010- Geomagic, a SolidWorks Solution Partner, today released Geomagic Studio 12, the latest version of the company's reverse engineering software that creates 3D parametric models for direct exchange with SolidWorks. Geomagic Studio 12 combines unparalleled ease of use with new features that improve results and save time.

Simple meets powerful

Greater ease of use in Geomagic Studio 12 comes from a new ribbon-style interface like the familiar one pioneered by Microsoft in Office 2007. Major new features in version 12 accelerate workflow and provide greater integration with SolidWorks.

"The combination of the ribbon interface and new Parametric Exchange features in Geomagic Studio 12 will further increase our reverse engineering efficiency," says Jeremy Smith, scanning specialist for Dienamic Tooling Systems, a major supplier of custom stamping dies and tooling for automotive, appliance and other industrial part manufacturers.

"Our design team already saves numerous hours in each project by using Parametric Exchange to automatically send features such as probed planes and holes straight into Solidworks along with the CAD model created in Geomagic Studio," says Smith. I'm sure we'll save even more time with enhanced Boolean and trimming operations in Studio 12."

Fast path from 3D scan to CAD

"Geomagic Studio 12 delivers the ideal integration that our customers expect from a SolidWorks Solution Partner," says Nick Iwaskow, SolidWorks Manager, Alliances. "Our customers have access to a streamlined 3D-scan-to-CAD path for faster product development and better product data management."

New features in Geomagic Studio 12 that optimize reverse engineering workflow include:

  • Automatic surface and solid trimming in Parametric Exchange, leading to faster creation of full-fidelity CAD models.
  • More flexible workflows to support faster design iterations.
  • Fast and intuitive hole-filling and improved automatic "healing" of polygon meshes.

Groundbreaking news for 3D inspection

Geomagic also today released Geomagic Qualify 12, the latest version of the company's quality inspection software, which also boasts the new ribbon interface.

The most groundbreaking new feature in Geomagic Qualify is the ability to embed colorized and annotated 3D models directly in a PDF report. Other new features include:

  • Quick feature creation to speed up the creation of inspection plans.
  • New algorithms for aligning test models with reference models.
  • A WYSIWYG template designer for customized reports.

Greater speed and compatibility

Both Geomagic Studio and Qualify now support Windows 7 and have been optimized to run up to 40 percent faster. A new start page provides fast and convenient access to files, frequently used tasks, and helpful resources such as a technical support knowledge base and sample data.

Geomagic supports the industry's widest range of scanners and input devices, representing more than 80 percent of all digitizing devices sold, with new devices and integrations added continually.

Available now

Geomagic Studio and Qualify 12 are available now. They ship with both 32- and 64-bit editions on the CD, and support English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese.
