Factory Floor 3D Scanning Solution Offers Fast Speeds for Automated Inspection of Parts

MORRISVILLE, N.C.  August 21, 2012 – Geomagic®, a global company providing 3D technology for digital reality, and Laser Design Inc., (LDI) provider of ultra-precise 3D scanning systems and 3D measurement services, today announced a deal to exclusively deliver Geomagic 3D scanning and inspection software with the Surveyor® Auto Gage 3D Scanning System.

The Auto Gage 3D Scanning System is a structured light projection scanner for the shop floor, using one or two scanner heads, for small-to-medium-sized objects. This versatile system delivers scanning accuracies of between 0.05 mm and 0.03 mm and is fast enough for factory-floor verification purposes. Bundled with Geomagic Studio® and Geomagic Qualify™, the system offers a fully-featured solution for scan-to-3D model for re-engineering and 3D inspection workflows.

The use of Geomagic’s scripting engine within this solution has added very powerful automation that allows the Auto Gage 3D scanner to become a complete, single-button inspection system.

“Geomagic Python Scripting Environment (GPSE) is a significant new tool that enables advanced automation between a scanner and Geomagic software,” said Len Chamberlain, VP of Sales, Geomagic. “With LDI’s Auto Gage 3D and Geomagic, user can scan parts, analyze them against design specifications, and create reports through the single click of a button. It’s an amazing step forward in automation.”

Geomagic Qualify and Geomagic Studio, which are now available with the Auto Gage 3D scanner, deliver the industry’s most advanced 3D inspection and reverse engineering software. Starting with scan data, Geomagic Studio quickly creates accurate 3D models for CAD, 3D printing, archive and more. Geomagic Qualify compares 3D scan data to reference data, immediately creating detailed reports on accuracy, deviations and highlighting issues with manufactured parts.

“This great combination of the Auto Gage 3D scanner with Geomagic software enables customers to quickly and seamlessly collect accurate data and use it within minutes,” said C. Martin Schuster, president and CEO of Laser Design. “As a solution for the shop floor, it delivers opportunities for manufacturers to spot manufacturing problems early on when they are more easily solved, saving production down-time, and reducing costs.”
